RIETVLEI NATURE RESERVE

Rietvlei Nature Reserve is situated South East of Pretoria and is run by the Council of Tswane.

While it does not have the big five it is great for a day visit or even for a weekend as there is accommodation available in the form of chalets.

There are numerous antelope, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra etc. as well as some great bird hides
from which you can view the abundant bird life.

Once a year, around January, parts of the reserve is covered in a thick carpet of purple and
yellow flowers as can be seen in the image of the zebra below.

PILANESBERG GAME RESERVE

Spent a few days in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve recently where we captured these shots. After the recent rains, the grass was rather long which hindered the spotting of animals, but we were lucky enough to see nine of the eleven cheetahs in the park. We spent en enjoyable afternoon at the Mankwe bird hide overlooking the Mankwe dam, where we watched as a small egret ran around catching small fish.
